A growing number of tech startups are being established in Los Angeles, as the West Coast metropolis draws entrepreneurs with cheaper rents than the Bay Area, and ready access to young IT talent. The size of L.A. is part of its appeal, but it can also present challenges to travelers who just want to get checked into their hotel to prepare for a packed conference schedule.
Book Your Hotel Early
HostingCon has reserved rooms at discounted rates in three different hotels: the Millenium Biltmore Los Angeles, the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles, and the L.A. Hotel Downtown. Discounted rates are available at each until mid-March, but there is a limited number at each, so take advantage soon.
All three hotels have WiFi, pools, and dry cleaning, but the Sheraton is slightly closer to the Los Angeles Convention Center, just less than a mile away in a straight line.
If You Drive, Park at the Convention Center
A shuttle bus will run between the three hotels and the Los Angeles Convention Center. You may want to give it extra consideration. Parking in the West parking garage of the convention center is $15, and while there are public parking lots somewhat nearby, a nearby lot advertising $10 parking has a recent review on Google suggesting unadvertised mark-ups. Busy conferences keep you on your feet enough that the extra walk will not likely be worth it.
Take Advantage of HostingCon Connect
HostingCon Connect has proven valuable to many attendees, who use it beforehand to scout networking prospects, set up meetings, and re-establish connections ahead of time. You can look up other registered attendees prior to the conference, and send up to dozens of messages to them. HostingCon Connect is only available for All Access pass holders.
Plan for LAX
If you are flying into LAX, it is best to plan extra time for one of the busiest airports in the country. Some discounts are available for HostingCon attendees on flights, rental cars, and transportation services, so check the HostingCon website for details and promo codes.
Bob Hope or Van Nuys Airports may be options for attendees coming from elsewhere in the region, but are a little further away.
With so many opportunities to learn and network at HostingCon, and so much to see and do in Los Angeles, planning ahead is critical to getting the most out of your time. Educational sessions and conference details are now being announced regularly, so check back often to keep up on the latest developments, and plan your HostingCon experience.
